Happy 50th Birthday Michael! These past few days have been a real joy as many of your fans have come together to celebrate your life and your musical genius. While you are sadly missed, you'd be pleased to know that your music and memory lives on. I'm sure you know. I'm sure you hear us. So many people have told me that they've heard more INXS music on the radio in the past week than they normally hear in a month. I bet that's you saying 'hello' and letting us know that you're still with us in spirit. You've had so many great achievements. Your best in my opinion are your beautiful daughter and your incredible music. I've met so many young people as a result of being a part of the various INXS fansites. Kids who were just born or very little when you left us. Kids who are inspired to become musicians themselves because of you. What a beautiful thing. The only thing that could be better is having you hear with us. Give my regards to your dad. We know you're off having an adventure somewhere.

The tribute this year was wonderful, Mr. Patterson. What a treat to see these wonderful pictures, hear these stories and be privy to the making of musical history. Thanks so much.

I ask myself how it is that I can feel so much love for a man I never actually met.

It is Michael Hutchence, that's why - thank you to the Hutchence family for sharing your beautiful memories of Michael with this global family.

As Michael once wrote in lyric, “...a one world state...” XOV

When I first saw Michael he was a wiry athletic 20 year old merging with a microphone stand. Above the smoke and noise he lingered so beautifully like a perfect sculpture in motion. Michael's intentness upon delivering a song with sincerity was as apparent as his future and his future was clear from where I watched him. He sang an old song with a new regard and the regard was all his own.

I was interrupted during Michael's performance by people shuffling stools at the bar around me. I moved my head and strained to see Michael better as bottles of spirits started to block my view. I could barely hear him and a man watching me watching Michael whispered in my ear “You're intoxicated”. I listened harder and heard him so clearly after that, all my senses were tuned just to him and the words of the song “The Loved One”.

The truth was and is that there are people amongst us who constantly redefine our point of view and landscape of our visions, I recognised Michael as one of them. When I watched Michael's performance that night I knew I was witnessing the emergence of an enigma and that enigma would haunt me like an echo to which I never grew deaf.

Michael turned heads to listen because he took a few words, strung them carefully together and made them as meaningful as they were memorable. Like a magician he immersed us in emotions and experiences that we may never otherwise feel or know first- hand. Michael carried us there to where he was and I for one couldn't wait for the journey even if I had to be a captive of his magic across huge spaces of air, land and sea.

In a lifetime short he gave much of himself to his family, his colleagues and friends, his country and the world. Michael expected little but respect in return. In the meantime he demonstrated a beat to walk by, sang words to live love and bear by and even though he is not here as long as we remember him he lives from moment to moment in the many memories he gave us.

If Michael were here I would gladly tell him without shame of my admiration and feel proud to honour his work. I have no doubt he would have kept evolving into a finer and finer artist carrying more importance and more depth by the decade. Time has not dulled his echo, chilled his humour or etched his face and instead it has brought us all together united in love and peace to wish him a very Happy 50th Birthday.

To dearest Michael,
Today would have been your 50th birthday.
It's so heartbreaking, just to think you left us in 1997. Our memory of you is forever young in our hearts. Your beautiful, soulful, meaningful words from deep within your heart will remain with us forever and more. Not a day goes by where you aren't in our thoughts, heart and soul. You forever mystify us.
Even though you would have just turned 50,
when I think of you, my eyes still go misty on this day-January the 22nd. The strength of your words still beckons.
You are forever the brightest and shiniest star
around us everywhere and never too far.
Your songs remain played on eleven
until we meet up again in heaven
I can't be on the computer right now, but my special friend Tammy kindly offered to put this message here for you, who I thank kindly for doing so. A Swedish proverb, just for you Michael, “If I had a rose for everytime I thought of you, I'd be picking roses for a lifetime.”
Michael, you will always shine like you do, into my heart. Happy Birthday sweet darling Michael. We will be celebrating your special day. My thoughts are also with all of your family today.

love and peace,
Judy (and Tammy too)

Hard to believe Michael would have been fifty today. In case I didn't mention it before, I go by AEST for his birthday and anniversary, so I observe them 16 hours ahead of time because if I wait until tomorrow, it'll technically be over.
It'd be nice if INXS had another #1 at home, or the US. Australia, possibly. The States is another matter, but one can only hope!
