Mr. Hutchence was a great entertainer,and musician. I like the music he made with INXS. When I hear their music I always place myself in the time in which it was popular.
My son came home from school yesterday (age 9) and told me he had to do an assignment on a “great” Australian who had passed. Most of the other kids were doing Ned Kelly and Slim Dusty, Don Bradman etc. I suggested to him he did Michael Hutchence. Of course he wanted to know who he was and what he did. So I got out an INXS CD and pulled some info up from the internet. He was most interested in Michael's life story and his achievements and loved the music. Of course he had heard quite a few of the tracks before but didn't know who they were. Today music artists come and go so quickly and very few have the staying power to last over 2 decades. I want all three of my boys to grow up appreciating bands like INXS, U2 and even AC/DC (their fathers fav!) All three have an interest in music - Tom is learning acoustic guitar at the moment with me and so he appreciates what it takes to produce and write great music. It is nice to think that my son's generation could take the time to understand and appreciate someone who we took for granted as we grew up listening to bands like INXS. He particularily felt compassion for Michael's daughter as she is only marginly older than him. He found it hard to believe that someone like Michael wasn't old (his words!)We are both keen to finish this assignment for his school and I hope by doing do other kids in his class open their eyes up to what I would call “A great Australian”.
I am so saddened by his untimely death, and this site has reduced me to tears, it is just such a beautiful celebration of his life for those of us who never got the pleasure of knowing him (there are so many of us!!). Thank you so much for sharing!
There are not but a hand full of artists that have touched my soul in my life. Michael is one of the few. Beautiful,talented,spiritual,mysterious and a truely amazing performer.I will never forget the day I watched MTV and was shocked,confused and deeply saddened by the news of his death. INXS music has brought so much joy to my life and I listen in awe and rememberance of true talent. I miss you Michael and I hope you have found peace. Love and admiration,Stephanie

I grew up with INXS, and just wanted to say that it is a sad thing for Michael to be gone. He was a great artist, and it is a shame for him to be taken so early. No one can ever replace him.

Michael is a major hero of mine. I am 16, living in VA. I discovered INXS not too long ago and I have been sergically attatched to INXS music like crazy. Michael is an inspiration. There are so few musicians as full of life as he was. You can really hear his passion in his voice and watching the old concert footage/videos, you can see how dyanamic a performer he was. It is awesome that he, to this day, is reaching 16 year old like me, which probably means there are teens around the world being impacted by him still. That shows how incredible he was. He took being the frontman to another level...setting the bar pretty high for those who want to be anywhere as great. There will NEVER be another Michael, he was one of a kind...and deserves to still be recognized. I was't even born when Kick was released and I am in love with that album, especially “Never Tear Us Apart.” He really did not have enough time, to quote an INXS song.He is a reason why I am not going to give up on my own depressive battles and other problems in my life. Michael will never be forgotten. Ever. He will always be remembered...and he truly is “one of my kind.”
