I will never forget what happened when Michael Hutchence passed away: I was finishing my last semester at the College of William & Mary during the timeframe of his death, and during a break in studying, I turned on my TV inside my dorm room -- to MTV, in fact. And suddenly I saw footage of the old 1988 “Rockumentary” that was done on INXS at the height of “Kick”. I wondered, at first, why is this being shown again? (considering how many years since I last watched it). Then during the commercial break, Kurt Loder of MTV News came on and mentioned that Michael had committed suicide on that fateful Saturday, 11/22/97...I couldn't believe it. I remembered my first inkling with INXS & Michael Hutchence was when “What You Need” first came on the airwaves in 1986 (and of course, the hits from “Kick” a year or so later)...but I was indeed stunned by the news. It's truly sad to have lost such a talented performer/lyricist/singer so soon...yet life must go on, because I'm sure that's how Michael would have wanted it for all of us. God bless you, Mikey, your fans (as well as your rock music peers) will always remember you as that “shining star.”
The music of INXS rocks on forever...God bless them always.
