I was a big fan of INXS as a young teen, and like many girls my age, I used to dream that he was my boyfriend. I would fall asleep to INXS on my record player every night. I was 25 when he died and still a fan, with all of their albums and videos in my collection. I was at work, snoozing at my desk (management was an easy job) when my salesman came running into my office. “Oh, my God, Mel - your boyfriend is dead!” he said. He was actually quite shaken, and we spent the rest of the day talking of INXS albums and concerts, along with Michael's flicks. Surprising, because I hadn't realized he was a fan.
I don't think it ever even really hit me that he was dead. I didn't know him, though I would have certainly liked to. It only really occurred to me recently, while burning my CDs to computer files for easy access, that this wonderful person is now gone.
May he live on in our hearts forever. Thank you, Kelland, Susie, Mario, Jackie and Dennis - for a beautiful tribute, and for bringing Michael's fans closer to him through your memories.
