It was only recently, on the anniversary of Michael's death, that I wrote of how I'd been to visit his memorial. Now, after Kell's death, I felt like I had to tell the whole story. I spent 2001 travelling around Australia, having chosen to go there in the first place because of my love of INXS and Michael. I promised myself that whilst I was there I would try and meet someone connected with the band. I visited Michael's memorial several times and then just before I was due to go home I went to the Hard Rock Cafe where I knew Kell would be to remember Michael's birthday. When I walked in and saw him I was so nervous. I spent the whole night wondering what to say to him. Before he left, he spent about fifteen minutes talking to someone next to me at the bar and he must have thought that I didn't know him because I never said anything. Then I heard him say he was going and before I knew it I said to him, “Excuse me, Kell, would you mind having your photo taken with me?” He said to me, “Of course not. You must be a long way from home with that accent!” (I remember it word for word.) Then we had our photo took, which thankfully came out! Then it was like time stood still as he shook mine and my boyfriend's hands and asked how we were. Then I remember saying to him, “I loved your son's music and I'll never forget him.” We just looked at each other and I didn't have to say anything else. I'm looking at that photo now and it always reminds me of my time in Australia. That meeting made the whole trip perfect. I'm probably only convincing myself of this but everywhere I went in Australia, especially around Sydney, I could 'feel' Michael there. It was like I was seeing the things he once did. I can't describe it any better than that. Kell was a true gentleman that night and I will never forget it. I hope that his family read this and remember the fondness anyone who loves Michael has for Kell. With my deepest sympathy and apologies for writing too much...
Hoping they are together and at peace.
