Thank you so much for this website. I have found it to be very tasteful and respectful to the memory of the man who made me love Oz Rock. I first discovered INXS when I was 12 years old. My older brother introduced me to their music and it wasn't long before I had claimed his copy of Shabooh Shoobah as my own. I remember they used to play fairly regularly at one of our local pubs, and I was extremely jealous of the fact that my brother was able to sneak into the gigs! I bought all their albums, would tape interviews and video clips and every little snippet of INXS on telly or radio that I could. I bought every magazine that had an article or even a picture in it. I made up dance routines to their songs (I was training to be a professional dancer) and dreamed that one day I'd actually dance in an INXS video!! When I was old enough to go to their shows I'd wag school to buy tickets and paint banners to take with me. During the shows I was totally awestruck by the fact that my heros where in the same room as me. If I was close enough to feel their sweat, I felt like I was experiencing the absolute pinnacle of my life. When the shows were over I'd cry, because I just wanted the music to go on forever. I am 30 now, and when I hear Don't Change I still end up weeping.
I still have all the t shirts, the pictures and memorabilia. I have all the singles, twelve inchs and recordings from all the band members side projects too. I get them out of their boxes sometimes and think how others would laugh at me for my teenage obsession. But I will never throw these reminders away. INXS were my teachers and I feel like they are the oldest friends I have. I never got to meet any of them personally to tell them how happy their music made me, and still makes me today. I hope one of them reads this, because I feel like I should have made an effort to thank Michael for the joy he brought me, while he was here.
Music will never be the same for me. When Michael died, old school friends rang me to tell me they were thinking of me. I watch the live concert videos, and think, I'd love to have seen them one more time - like this. Belting out What You Need or grooving along with New Sensation.
One day I will.................
