Dear Mr. Hutchence,
I wish I could express how much Michael Hutchence meant to me and my youth. I, like many others, fell under Michael and INXS' spell after seeing the video for New Sensation on MTV. Maybe it was his eyes, his poetic words, or his beautiful hair...whatever it was it captured me forever. I was never privileged enough to have seen INXS in concert, but that never kept me from being one of their greatest fans. My cat is even named Hutchence in Michael's honor. (My cat is 8 and 1/2 years old) I was lucky enough not to hear that Michael had passed away on t.v., but I heard it from my mother who woke me up to tell me about his death. I cried for the next week, wore my pajamas that whole weekend, and even now I still cry sometimes for a life cut short that was so in bloom. He was my inspiration to be a better writer, a better friend, a better love, and of course to be a bold, exciting person. I always admired Hutchence's ability to take chances and to stand out in a crowd. Some of my only comforts in his death have been that I have a wonderful Austrailian friend named Chelse who kept me updated by sending me all of the magazines that were done in tribute to his death. I cherish all of my INXS Memorabilia, Videos and CD's, and I guess after 11 years of being a fan that's really all I have. I am so proud to say that Michael Hutchence gave me so much, and he inspired me to believe in myself. My quote in my senior yearbook in high school said, “Sometimes you kick and sometimes you get kicked.” Thank you for this beautiful website and for having a son who was such a wonderful person, talented artist, and his words continue to be an inspiration to my life.
