I will never forget the night you came to the reception desk of Rhinoceros Recording Studios at 10 o'clockat night, during the recording of 'X' (January 1990), to say hi to my sister and I and to take three cassettes of my own music to listen to and critique. Despite having only recently come off the crest of the wave that was the Kick world tour, you still had time for others.
As we stood there just chatting, you seemed more interested in our lives than talking about the song you were currently beavering away on in the studio - Suicide Blonde.
You died on my birthday, and even though I only really knew you through the stories you told in your lyrics, I attended your funeral as one attends the funeral of a long-time friend or close family member.
Because that is what you were to so many Michael - a family member. You spoke to us through your music and showed us your soul.
May that soul rest in heaven. You continue to inspire me even in death.
