INXS helped me get through my teenage years. Like Michael, my parents divorced and my brother and I were tossed around a lot - both physically and as metaphorical pawns in their fights. I found myself crying myself to sleep almost every night during those times. During that tumultuous period, INXS was my one constant in life. I'd listen to the music wherever I was and I would feel immediately at “home.” Their music, and Michael's lyrics in particular, would soothe my soul like nothing else could.
I am now 38 and have a busy life and a healthy family. On our annual vacation last week I turned on my iPod and played some old INXS music while we drove 6 hours to our destination. I haven't been able to stop listening since. It brought back many memories, and made my heart heavy with the feeling of loss that still lingers almost 15 years after Michael's death.
I know Michael is at peace. But for those lives he touched, we will never fully be at peace. His loss was just too great, too sad, too early.
Love and peace to all.
