I have been an INXS fan since Fall 1986. Michael, you were not my favorite member at first, but over the years I grew to admire you. Yes, Michael, of course I loved your looks, especially your beautiful brown eyes and your long beautiful brown hair. My own hair is brown, but for years I did not appreciate my hair color, until I saw you. But, it was not only your looks that I loved, and they certainly were not the most important reason why I still admire you, even in 2009, 12 years after your death. It was your singing ability, your intelligence, your passion about what you were doing, and your not being afraid to be yourself. I recently wrote a poem about you which I would like to share on this website. So, here it is. Enjoy.
MICHAEL'S SONG
The song you no longer sing
Ended way too soon
Your song, Michael, touched so many lives
Why did your song end?
And why did that song end in the way it did?
Twelve years later, we still do not understand
November 22, 1997 is a day that will live on as the day your music died
We never thought that your song, Michael, would ever end
If only we could hear you sing again
Just one more verse
One more chorus
Maybe then, we would all be able to make sense of such a tragic and lonely death that didn't have to happen
If
Such a big word to only have two letters
If only
All of us who loved and cared bout you, Michael, are left with bittersweet memories
Sometimes more bitter than sweet
Sometimes more sweet than bitter
But, always, your song will have those bittersweet lyrics
Perhaps, Michael, it is better for all of us who were left behind, to be glad that we had you and your God-given gifts for as long as we did that it is to be sad because you are no longer with us
And perhaps we who are left should continue to sing your song in your memory
And we will do our best to continue singing the song you gave us until our own voices give out
But it will always be with sadness in our hearts and tears in our eyes for a life and song that ended long before it should have
We would so love to hear you sing again
All of us you left behind
Your family
Your friends, including the surviving members of INXS: Andrew, Garry, Jon, Tim, and Kirk
INXS fans all over the world
You live on through your music
But it's not and it never will be the same again
Life goes on and we go on with it
Singing our hearts out in your memory, Michael
For you and all you meant to us
