So many great songs, so many wonderful shows, so many “hey howyadoin”s...great memories, all.
So many years have passed, but some days it still stops me in my tracks when I realise I won't ever see you again. I have to remind myself, still, that's it's real, and you're gone. That I won't ever again live and breathe the thrill of leaning on the front of the stage as you pranced around on show; that I won't ever again sit cross-legged with my friends on the carpeted floor at Rhino, waiting for you to take a break from recording so you could come chat and laugh and talk with us in that charming, casual way that was so...you.
You're really gone.
It's been nearly 10 years and you know what? I'm still not quite over it. Maybe I won't ever be.
I'll let you in on a secret. It took a very, very long time for me to warm up to JD, the new guy. I wouldn't - couldn't - listen to the 'new INXS' for a long, long time. Just couldn't. But then I heard 'Pretty Vegas', on the radio, without knowing...and dammnit, I was hooked. Again. He's a singer, all right and he belongs in the band. Confession: I bought the album. You'd be proud.
But still, never another you. Never another Hutch.
Thanks for everything. For letting us 'fans' into your life. For inviting us into your terrace in Darlinghurst on Christmas Eve and making us feel welcome even when you didn't know how we got the address (still not telling lol)!! For always treating us like equals, even though we were only kids. For inspiring us to dream, for everything.
Thank you from the heart.
You were a one of a kind, and you are missed more than you will ever, ever know.
