I remember clearly where I was when I heard the news. I turned on the tv, and closed my eyes... pretending it wasn't true. I'd have to say that his untimely death was the most influencial thing in my life thus far. He had a special gift. I wish I could've met him. This is a poem I wrote shortly after his death:
a life so fragile
like the wings of a butterfly
balanced so precariously
on the edge of the world
to fall at any moment.
extinguished by the hands
it has grown to recognize
as it's own
the self that was trusted
has so quickly turned
the other cheek
But I still see it there
in the wings of a butterfly
balanced so precariously
on the edge of a world
that has fallen out of reach.
Thank you for such a beautiful webpage celebrating the life of one of the most amazing and unique beings that ever existed.
